About Me

Hello! ¡Hola!  My name is Señora Schectel and I teach Spanish and English as a Second Language here at Cranbury School.  I started in 2010, right after I got married, so that makes this my 11th year teaching at Cranbury.

I grew up in Bound Brook, New Jersey, where I graduated from Bound Brook High School.  I then attended Muhlenberg College where I majored in Spanish, and minored in history. I have always found the study of language and culture to be fascinating!  After earning my BA at Muhlenberg, I went on to spend a year in rural Colorado participating in AmeriCorps and then a year teaching English as a Second Language at a university in Quito, Ecuador.  Once back in the states, I set about getting my teaching certificate through the Alternate Route program and began teaching Spanish. I have since obtained my M.Ed. in Teaching English as a Second Language, from The College of New Jersey.

Now, I live with my husband Jeff, daughter Hannah (7), son Andrew (5) and dog, Libby, in Central New Jersey.  I am so grateful to be a small part of such a wonderful, supportive learning community at Cranbury School. It is my sincere hope to help students see how valuable learning a second language can be.  Muchas gracias for the privilege to be able to teach your children each day!
