Team T.A.S.K. "Doing Good Through the Game"

Team TASK: Doing Good Through the Game

By Charlie Vachris

In April I started a service project to help raise money for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (also known as T.A.S.K.). I named it, “Team T.A.S.K.”, with my slogan being “doing good through the game.” My goal was to take my passion for lacrosse to help people in the Trenton area. I started by giving lacrosse lessons to kids in Cranbury and donating all of my fees to T.A.S.K.  Over the course of the season, it was great watching my players improve their skills and become better players on the field.

As I continued with the lessons, I thought of other ways for Team T.A.S.K. to raise money.  The first fundraiser I did was a raffle at a local lacrosse tournament. I sold raffle tickets for the opportunity to win a lacrosse stick. The second fundraiser was at Cranbury Day. I had my own tent on Main Street and raised money through a cornhole toss, where a donation gave you an opportunity to play the game and win prizes.  Both fundraisers went really well and I raised a lot of money for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen.

In the future I will to continue what I’m doing with Team T.A.S.K. I have been giving lacrosse lessons this fall and have boys and girls signed up for winter basketball and spring lacrosse lessons. On Thanksgiving morning, Team T.A.S.K. will assist with the fourth annual Wynnewood Turkey Trot. The turkey trot is a 5k/Fun Run in Cranbury.

The opportunity to help people through my passion for sports has been a very rewarding experience.
