Chunk 1: (30 points)
1. Open the Seahorse Project sample. Look at the composition and the size of the seahorse. This is the size you will be drawing your seahorse.
2. Open the file named "Seahorse Step-by-step Direction Sheet."
2. On a practice paper, practice drawing your seahorse. Many of the original lines are just drawn for guidelines, so DRAW LIGHTLY as they will be erased.
3. Once you feel confident in your drawing, draw the seahorse on the final project paper. This paper is the last large paper in your art folder.
4. Once you have your seahorse drawn and have erased any guidelines that you do not need in your seahorse, you are ready for the bottom of your drawing. Open the file for the various types of coral and sea plants. Fill the bottom of your paper with coral and sea plants. If the coral is behind the seahorse, stop and hop. If the coral is in front of the seahorse, remember to erase any of the seahorse lines that are inside the coral or plants.
5. When you are done your drawing, you will need to take a picture and turn it in for chunk one grading. Chunk one is worth 30 points.

*Below is the assignment for students that are FINISHED with their still life project. If you are not finished with your still life, do not do what is listed below*
If you finished the Still Life project, you are to submit a brainstorming drawing (sketch) of your castle assignment. You can use one of the free draw papers that is in your art folder, or you can draw on any blank paper you have at home. This is what I would like you to draw:
-A castle. Your castle should include columns, windows, doors, battlements (classic castle line tops). It needs to be symmetrical...therefore if you add a column on the right, add one to the left.
-Environment. Where is your castle? Is it located at the beach, underwater, forest, jungle, moon, etc. Your sketch should show the location.
-Theme. Your castle theme can be anything you want it to be. In the past I have had a Stranger Things theme, unicorn theme, Disney theme, Harry Potter Theme, dragon theme, etc. On your sketch, please add some of your theme elements. You can look at images online and draw from those images.
-Crest. Above your door and on your castle flags (I will show this in a demo next week), you will need to draw a crest (logo). If my castle theme was art, my crest/logo may be a painting palette with a paint brush. You can sketch your crest on a corner of your paper or place it on your castle.
*Remember this is just a brainstorming sketch. It should not be colored or sharpie. Just a pencil drawing of an idea. You will receive the demonstration on your final project next week.

READ ALL DIRECTIONS:
Today you need to work on your artwork for at least 30 minutes. We do not have a scheduled zoom meeting, but if you have any questions, please click the zoom link for open class. I will be on from 2:00 - 3:15 to answer questions.
Here is your assignment:
1. Watch the attached demo video. Watch the entire video.
2. Find one of the large watercolor papers in your folder. It is the largest paper. Take only one out.
3. Read the tips below.
4.Lightly draw your still life onto your paper. If you want to change the groupings of your objects that is fine. But they still must overlap.
5. If you finish your drawing and still have time to work, use a REGULAR sharpie (NOT a skinny sharpie) and carefully trace your objects. These lines should be smooth tracing lines and NOT sketch lines. Make sure you trace your table line, too.
6. If you still have time, move onto your "broken lines". You are using the ruler and the regular sharpie. Do not do in pencil first. Please refer to demo video for these instructions.
7. Once you have worked on your artwork for at least 30 minutes, open the attached google doc, insert a picture of the work you created today, and click TURN IN. This is worth 10 points and counts as your class participation for today.
Tips:
-Watercolor paper has a smooth side and bumpy side. If you can tell the difference, draw on the bumpy side. (if you can't tell the difference, don't worry about it.)
-Draw lightly. If you press too hard on watercolor paper you will not be able to erase any mistakes fully.
-Think about your composition. You should be drawing your 5 objects larger than what you did on your practice sheet. Use your practice sheet as a guide. If you want to change anything, go ahead!
-It might be a good idea to look at the final project samples in the reference part of our classwork tab. That way you can eye-ball how big the cups/cases/mugs should be on your paper.
-Don't forget to take a picture of your work today and hit TURN IN.

Our first project we will be painting a still life. On Tuesday we will go over what is a still life and you will receive a demo on the project. For today, I need you to gather the objects of for your still life. Therefore, I need you to gather 5 objects that are as follows:
Cup/drinking glass, vase, mug, pitcher
You don't have to have one of each, you could have 5 drinking cups. However, they all need to be different. That could mean one is taller than the others, or wider. What is on the cup does not matter.
For an example, I attached my still life objects below.
*When you have your objects, please take a picture by doing the following:
-Open the Google Doc below.
-Click Insert
-Click Camera
-Using your chrome book camera, take a clear picture of your 5 objects together...so one image. Please turn your lights on to make it easier to take a great photo.
-The photo will then be inserted into your document.
-Lastly, press TURN IN. I cannot see your picture and you will not get credit unless you hit TURN IN.
