All About Me

Hello! My name is Janis Davis. I am thrilled to be one of the first grade teachers at Cranbury School. Each year I call my class of first graders, the Love Bugs (named after cars like Herbie from the 1968 movie). This will be my 16th year teaching. For the past nine years, I was at home taking care of my children. I am excited to get back into the classroom. I have experience teaching K-5th graders in a multitude of different settings in several states. I have 8 years of first grade teaching experience. It is my favorite grade to teach!
I have a son who is a junior at Princeton University studying Computer Science. He was president of the Robotics club when he was at Princeton High school. My daughter will be a junior at Princeton High School. She plays the flute and loves history. We have a red and white Pembroke corgi named Fergus. He loves belly rubs and treats!
When I'm not teaching or thinking about teaching, I enjoy knitting, reading, cooking, eating, and running - during the warm months. I grew up in Odessa, Texas. I have lived in Princeton for twenty years now.
First grade is a magical time. During this year, my hope is that your first grader will find learning to be fun and engaging. It is this year that students will learn the tools to become lifelong readers, writers, and mathematicians. They will begin to explore the world around them through books. As one of my favorite children’s authors, Patricia Polacco writes, “The honey is sweet, and so is knowledge, but knowledge is like the bee who made the honey, it has to be chased through the pages of a book!” My hope is that your child will find knowledge to be sweet, too.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
