Week of Respect: Oct. 1 - 5

The New Jersey Anti-Bullying Law designates the week beginning the first Monday in October of each year as a “Week of Respect.” School districts, in order to recognize the importance of character education, are directed to observe the week by providing age-appropriate instruction focusing on preventing harassment, intimidation, or bullying. Throughout the school year, districts are expected to provide similar instruction in accordance with the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards.

This year's "Week of Respect" will be held October 1st - October 5th.

This year our Peer Leaders will do lessons in the kindergarten to third grade classes on the importance of respect and how we can all be UPstanders!

The theme will revolve around the Disney Pixar film Up. The Peer Leaders will be dressed as “Respect Explorers,” and the students will all participate in a lesson about respect followed by the chance to color and create their very own respect balloon which will help lift our school up! The Peer Leaders will be teaching their lessons during the morning meeting or lunch/recess periods.

In order for our K-3 students to receive their “Respect Explorer” badge, the students will have to participate in the lesson and decorate their balloon in which the Peer Leaders will display on the bulletin board across from the main office for the month of October. In addition to the students’ balloon, our Peer Leaders will be also be reading a short story that relates to the monthly character trait and the importance of respect.

Our Peer Leaders will also be going into the fourth and fifth grade classes, where they will teach lessons that relate to healthy social media use, cyber-bullying and what it means to be a digital citizen. The students in each class will have the opportunity to learn about their digital footprint and the importance of Internet safety.

We will also show our dedication to promoting a respectful school environment by dressing in the colors or themes designated to represent the Week of Respect daily themes.
